Project Results
Key projects that the Data Council has undertaken and completed over the past twelve months
- Assisting SME’s - In a bid to ensure that it is
attracting more SMEs to use direct marketing, the Council has identified DMA
members which provide services to the SME market and is promoting them via the
DMA online members’ directory. On using the site, SMEs can be assured of a
quality service from members, but can select suppliers most relevant to their
business based on order size and price band.
- DMA List Manager - This popular site, that
catalogues lists held or promoted by DMA members, is about to be re-launched.
Holding details of approximately 2,000 lists in both the B2C and B2B arena,
developments include an improved search facility, a proposal tool that allows
enquirers to export key information from the directory into Word and Excel, and
a listing of insert opportunities.
- Best Practice & Governance - The Council has
updated the Data Best Practice Guidelines incorporating the DMA Direct Marketing
Code of Practice, new legislation and other developments in the data industry.
The Council is also developing a comprehensive list of data FAQs.
- Waste Initiative - Recognising the need to reduce
waste and preserve natural resources worldwide, the DMA is working to minimise
the impact the industry has on the environment. The Council is actively involved
in the DMA's environmental campaigns to increase the use of suppression files by
direct marketers.
- Data Pitch Guidelines - With the data industry
becoming increasingly complex and competitive, the Data Council is in the
process of developing data briefing and pitch guidelines to ensure the best
relationship between clients and their data suppliers - both existing and new.
Looking at issues such as how to write a brief, how to run a pitch and producing
watertight contracts.
- Events & Training - The Council has been
evaluating ways to develop high demand data events and add value to membership
with the transfer of knowledge through training. Core Data Council events
comprise four interactive workshops: Collecting and Buying Data; Preparing and
Processing Data; Analysing Data; Profiling and Data Segmentation Case Studies.
Data issues are also covered in the Annual Data
Protection Conference; Interactive TV Showcase; Email Marketing and Effective
Mobile Marketing Seminars, where issues such as data collection, best practice
and targeting/profiling are covered.
- Targeted DMA Communications - The Data Council
worked with the DMA to re-develop the DMA website and improve members
communications. Individual contacts, at both members and non-members, are now be
able to access their details via the website and update their personal
preferences to order to set individual requirements for the provision of
information from the DMA. In addition, each member company has an appointed
administrator, responsible for the upkeep of their company's details
online.
- World Intelligence Website - Launched at the
IDMF in May 2006, the World
Intelligence Website offers members factual information on key
markets worldwide and includes advice and insight on legislation, demographics
and economics. The Data Council has recently formally handed over the management
of the World Intelligence Website to the Federation of European Direct Marketing
(FEDMA). The site will shortly be re-launched by FEDMA.
