Mailing Houses
The Mailing House Council is made up of elected and co-opted members to represent the
interests of the mailing houses and suppliers to the direct marketing industry.
The aims of which are to ensure the ethical behaviour, environmental responsibility of
members, to maintain effective relationships, resist unreasonable legislation and restrictions
on trade and to promote the direct mail channel.
InitiativesThe Council objectives are broken into three main areas: Best Practice; Environmental mitigation and Promotion of the Direct Mail ChannelBest PracticeThe Council provides input to the DMA's Code of Practice and best practice guidelines for the mailing house sector. A specific working party constantly reviews and updates the guidelines to ensure they meet current standard requirements but also to continually improve upon these to ensure the direct mail channel is protected from unscrupulous practices.Environmental MitigationThe Mailing House Council work with the DMA team on the promotion of environmental mitigation practices. The most recent developments being the training and certification scheme in the implementation of ISO14001.ISO 14001 is an international management standard that specifies a process for controlling and improving a company's environmental performance and is designed to address the delicate balance between maintaining profitability and reducing environmental impact. The DMA is promoting a scheme which will help members gain the competitive advantage of environmental transparency and accountability as well as save approximately £2,000 in reduced rates.
